Hey! I'm Jess, a 24-year-old journalism student at the University of South Australia. I produce BTS with Jess, a youth arts documentary exploring the creation processes behind various art forms and encouraging young people to get involved.
I grew up in Williamstown and Gawler in regional SA, and I'm engaged with the Gawler community, where I facilitate youth art workshops for the Gawler Council, MC community events, and volunteer on various committees, including the Plains Arts, Culture and Events Festival and the Gawler Relay for Life.
I decided to pursue broadcasting when I started public speaking and MCing events in 2021. I realised how much I enjoyed interviewing and hosting, so I changed my university degree from education to a Bachelor of Creative Industries at UniSA, majoring in Film & TV and Journalism. I'm part of UniCast, my university's student-run radio station, where I broadcast university events.
The focus on youth arts in my TV program began with the significant role art has played throughout my childhood and teenage years. I used to exhibit my work in shows and competitions, so I personally recognise the huge role it plays in young people's lives and in the community.
As well as my own experiences creating art, I've learnt from others through interviews conducted for both my university studies and BTS with Jess. These discussions have shed light on the impacts of art on young people, including its significant role in supporting their mental health, development, and self-discovery.
Tune in to Channel 44 Adelaide, Channel 31 Melbourne, Channel 83 New Zealand, or CTV+, and join me to explore the arts and its positive impact on the lives of young people and communities.
