Recently filmed with new local band 'Take Me, Time Machine' at the Gov Hotel. The Gov is one of Adelaide's leading live music venues, hosting performances of a wide variety of genres. Playing for a live audience is a huge step in the right direction for young artists and bands, so it was great to showcase their performance on BTS with Jess. The band's live performance that I filmed here at the Gov will be incorporated into a story with their interviews, so keep an eye out for it, especially if you love supporting local music and young artists!

Onkaparinga Youth hosts a weekly music program called 'Rhyme, Recital, Remix', at Base 10 Youth Centre in Old Reynella. At the sessions, young people can learn from accomplished musicians and instructors and use the amazing facilities to write lyrics, record music, make beats, practice sound engineering and do some live jamming! The participants had some amazing stories to share about how music and the youth centre had empowered them, and supported their development and wellbeing. I think the best bit about this program, is that it supports youth to develop their musical abilities, then provides them with the chance to perform live in the community! I'm excited for the completed episode to finally be broadcasted! Adelaide East Education Centre provides education for high school students with disabilities or learning needs. In June, Lolly Jar Circus paid them a visit to deliver an amazing circus workshop! We had a great time learning about the circus arts, and the students had some awesome stories to share with me about what they were getting out of the program. There was a wide range of circus activities to learn, which will be featured on the show along with some fantastic student and staff interviews! Adelaide College of the Arts is Australia's only tertiary institution teaching performing arts, visual arts, and design in one place. With the episode being focussed on portraiture, I interviewed two very talented students, Mik and Ruby, and filmed some of their drawing process. I also listened to their stories about how they first began their creative journeys, and what they'd advise other young artists. Lolly Jar Circus is South Australia's only circus school that's fully inclusive of young people and children with disabilities or at social risk, and they run some pretty cool classes! Not only that, but they also attend schools and other facilities to conduct outreach programs, supporting youth to get involved in circus arts. In May, I headed to the Estonian Hall in North Adelaide to see what they get up to, and chat with some of the participants and instructors. Watch out for it on an episode of BTS with Jess! I visited the mining town of Kapunda, located over 70kms north of Adelaide, to interview local visual artist Hannibal Coates. We filmed an amazing live painting session, and I learned how he creates a portrait using oil paints. |
